Dr. Lair does research in observational astrophysics, specifically optical
observations of Type Ia supernovae. Type Ia supernovae are a certain type of stellar
explosion that is the death of a relatively small mass star. Type Ia supernovae are
special because the explosions are all roughly the same, meaning they have the same
brightness and duration. Dr. Lair is particularly interested in the lateā€time light
curve (brightness versus time) of this type of stellar explosion.
